  • Print Your Cookbook For the Holidays

    Christmas CookiesThe holidays are right around the corner and family cookbooks make a great gift for family and friends – and it is the busiest time for Family Cookbook Project in terms of printing cookbooks for families.

    If you plan to have your cookbooks printed by us and received by Christmas, the deadline to order and make payment is Sunday, November 30th. There will be an extended deadline, but expedited shipping will be required. Let us know if we can help!

    If you need your family cookbook for Hanukkah, the print deadline is Thursday, November 20th.

    So get your contributors to submit their final recipes and start reviewing everything to get your cookbook ready to print before the holiday deadline to have a wonderful family heirloom to share for generations.

  • Tricks and Treats for Your Cookbook

    It’s Halloween time! Remember to add fun
    tricks and treats to your cookbook!

    As we prepare for the holiday season, many family cookbook editors are working to finalize their projects in order to give as gifts this year. Cookbooks must be submitted for printing before the deadline of Friday, November 1st to receive your cookbooks by Thanksgiving. Saturday, November 30th is the deadline to guarantee delivery without expedited shipping before the Christmas holiday.

    So now is the time to contact all of your contributors with your reminder tool and tell them to enter their recipes now before it is too late. We recommend using a recipe submission deadline of October 15th in order to give you time to review the recipes, make sure all of the extra spaces are removed and words are spelled correctly, and still have time to place your order before the printing deadline.

    Family cookbooks make wonderful gifts for family and friends alike. The effort you put into your cookbook now will pay off for your entire family for years to come.

    Ingredients:
    1 3oz. pkg orange gelatin
    2 c. boiling water
    1 6oz can orange juice concentrate
    1 46 oz. can unsweetened pineapple juice
    1 qrt. ginger ale

    ________________________________________
    Directions:
    Dissolve gelatin in boiling water.

    Mix orange juice with three cans of water and add to gelatin mixture.

    Add pineapple juice and chill.

    Add ginger ale just before serving. Makes 30 1/2 cup servings

Just remember, it will take us 2-3 weeks to print and get your cookbooks to you. So plan to finish up by the first few days of November. That’s just 10 weeks away.

Every recipe has always offered a personal notes/comments field for a contributor when they add it to the cookbook – so they can tell their story about the recipe.

    New! We have added an “Add to the Story” button on all recipes – so any contributor you have can add their own comments and stories to someone’s recipe. As editor, you can even have these stories added to the printed cookbook!

    BBQ Chicken Pizza with Cauliflower Crust

    Ingredients:
    1 head of cauliflower
    3 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
    ½ cup grated Parmesan
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon oregano
    ½ teaspoon salt
    ½ teaspoon pepper
    2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
    1 cup barbeque sauce
    ¾ red onion sliced
    ½ cup red sauce
    ________________________________________
    Directions:
    1. Break cauliflower into small florets and place pieces in food processor. Blend until it looks like snow.
    2. Heat in microwave for 5 minutes on HIGH. Let cauliflower cool.
    3. While the cauliflower is cooling, sauté chicken in skillet with a bit of olive oil, just until cooked.
    4. Mix chicken with 1/2 cup of barbeque sauce. Set aside.
    5. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
    6. Then strain using a fine strainer or kitchen cloth, squeeze all of the water out of the cauliflower.
    7. Mix drained cauliflower, 1 ½ cup of mozzarella cheese, Parmesan, egg,
    and seasonings.
    8. Press mixture onto baking sheet in ¼ in layer. Bake for 12 minutes
    9. Take out crust and spread red sauce on top. Cover with chicken, red onion, and cheese (in that order).
    10. Drizzle the rest of the BBQ sauce on top of the pizza.
    11. Bake the pizza again for maximum 8­-10 minutes or until cheese is bubbly.

    The site is clean and works. Better than that it is simple enough for non Computer/Internet people – I know because I know some people like that who enjoy it. The interface is wonderful and easy to use too. But, the customer service is amazing. When I started with my cookbook, I had a few technical questions and they were all addressed quickly with easy to understand replies. I, my family, wanted only an online place to share recipes. But, I can only assume that the other aspects of the site would work just as well. On a scale of one to ten I give it an eleven.

    When I decided to do “Four Sisters, A Legacy of Love from our Kitchens”, it was a two fold project:  A one stop place to have our family favorite recipes and a fund raiser for both Diabetes and Crohn’s organizations on behalf of two of our grandchildren.  I loved being able to contact the company and talk to an actual person with concerns and questions.  I loved that they worked with us on our cover allowing us to use the design and photos we wanted.  I was a bit naïve thinking I “might” sell 50 and the orders came in just by word of mouth on facebook and we sold over 300 and were able to make a nice donation to our causes.  We have requests to do a second printing and maybe one of these days we will do just that!  Highly recommend this professional company!

    3. We send monthly payment to Program Members via PayPal on the 15th of every month (if your balance is at least $100).

    Once you join the program we will give you access to our online Affiliate Center.  This is the place where you will build your links, view your traffic and earnings reports, and read about the latest news and opportunities available to you through the program.

    We do have some basic ground rules for the program:

    • All participants must have a PayPal account (in order to receive payouts).
    • Your traffic must come from individuals in the USA and Canada.
    • You may NOT receive credit for referring yourself.

    Participants caught violating or attempting to circumvent these rules will have all affiliate credit voided and will not receive payouts. Additionally, they will be banned from further participation in our affiliate program.

    To get started, simply complete the online application. Once your application has been reviewed and accepted, post the web site links to FamilyCookbookProject.com on your web site or to social media sites, using the links provided. It’s as easy as that.

    How to get your recipes into your cookbook


    Many people who have entered recipes in the past into a word processing program, like Microsoft Word, often of ask us for a way to import these recipes into Family Cookbook Project.

    Unfortunately, there is no automatic way to import these recipes into our system because each source uses its own layout and there is no way for us to identify what information needs to needs to be entered into our fields.
    Cut and Paste
    The good news is that it’s quick and easy to copy and paste a recipe into Family Cookbook Project using cut and paste on your computer.
    Here’s how: Simply highlight all the ingredients in your source document and hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the “C” key on your keyboard. Next go to “add a new recipe” in your family cookbook site. Click in the ingredients box and now hold the Ctrl key while pressing the “v” key. This pastes what you have copied into the field. Repeat for title, directions and notes and you are done!
    This process also can be used to import recipes from other websites. However, remember to credit the source of the recipe in your recipe notes.
    Scanning recipes
    Another way editors look to add recipes is by scanning. The problem with scanned recipes is that the system can not read the text to create titles and indexes and other parts of the cookbook. The computer just sees them as photos.
