1# lean ground beef
1/4 # ground pork
1/4 # ground veal if you have it, otherwise increase the pork to 1/2#
1 c soft bread crumbs
3/4 c milk or half and half
1/2 c chopped onion
1 Tbsp butter
1 egg
1/4 c finely snipped parsley
1/14 tsp salt
Dash pepper
Dash ground allspice

Directions:
Directions:
Have meats ground together or mix them well together.
Soak bread crumbs in milk about 5 minutes.
Cook onion in 1 Tbsp butter until tender.
Mix meats, crumb mixture, onion, egg, parsley, salt, pepper, seasonings until well combined. Shape into 1 1/2 inch balls (mixture will be soft - for easier shaping, wet hands or chill mixture first).
Brown meatballs in 2 Tbsp butter.

Grandma Florence always overcooked these. Barbara took over this task while Grandma did other things for Smorgasbord. These always seemed much better to us after we made slight modifications.

They can be served with with a white gravy but the Malm smorgasbord always served them without.
