1/2 C shortening
1 C sugar
1 beaten egg
1 can condensed tomato soup
1 tsp soda
1 3/4 C flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 C chopped dates
1 C chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar until smooth. Add beaten egg and mix thoroughly. Dissolve soda in can of soup and add alternately with the dry ingredients, which have been sifted together. Stir in dates and walnuts. If dates are sticky, coat with a bit of the flour. Place in 7"x11" shallow loaf cake pan. Bake at 325º for one hour.

Cool for 10 to 15 minutes and frost with cream cheese.
