1/4 c. shortening, 1/4 c. butter, 11/2 c. sugar, 21/4 c. sifted flour, 1/2 tsp. soda, 1 c. buttermilk, 1/4 tsp almond extract, 1/4 tsp. orange extract, 2 eggs, 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1/4 tsp. lemon juice

Combine all ingredients in the order they are in. Bake in 2 -8 inch layer or an 8 inch square pan at 350. Layers: 30 -35 min. square pan:45-50 min
Frost with White icing.(same flavor as cake) Decorate edges with grated lemon rind to resemble border of flowers.
