Grandma's Sugar Cookies Recipe

2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
4 1/2 c. flour

Topping
1/2 tsp sugar for each cookie

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Combine dry ingredients and set aside. Cream shortening and sugar until smooth. Add eggs, vanilla and buttermilk. Slowly add dry ingredients to wet. Finished mixture will be like cake batter or a little thicker. Drop by the teaspoonful onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Top with sugar. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes. Cookies will not get very brown on top so be careful not to burn them on the bottom. Remove immediately from the cookie sheet and cool.
