German Chocolate Cake Recipe

21/2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1/4 c. margarine or butter
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
1/4 c. cocoa mixed with 1/2 cups warm water
1 t vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream margarine and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Add cocoa mixture. Sift flour, soda and salt together and add alternately with buttermilk; add vanilla. Bake @ 350 oven for 20-25 minutes or until done. Makes 3 layers or 4 thin layers or can be baked in sheet pans.

German Chocolate Icing
1 c. sugar
1 egg
3-4 tsp. cream or top milk
pinch salt
2-3 T. margarine or butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts
1 c. coconut

Mix together and bring to a boil, stirring constantly for 4-5 minutes. Add vanilla, nuts, and coconut. Beat until creamy. Add extra coconut and nuts on top if desired.
