Apple Dumplings Recipe

2 1/4 C. Flour
3/4 tsp Salt
3/4 C. Shortening
7 or 8 T. Ice Water (enough to make dough stay together)

Sauce: 1 C. Sugar
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
2 C. Water

6 Tart Apples
1/2 C. Sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 T. Butter

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, salt and add shortening and cut in until mixture is size of peas. Sprinkle water over lightly. Roll out dough to 1/8" thick. Cut in 7" squares. Peal and core apples and place an apple on each square. Fill cavity of apples with sugar and cinnamon mixed together. Dot with butter. Bring opposite points of dough up over apple. Seal well. Place in baking pan. Chill

Mix sugar, cinnamon, butter, water. Boil 3 minutes. Pour hot syrup around chilled dumplings. Bake immediately for 5 to 7 minutes at 500º until crust shows slight coloring. Bake 30 to 35 minutes longer at 350º.
