1/2 C shortening (part butter or margarine)
1 C sugar
1 egg
1 3/4 C flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 squares unsweetened chocolate (melt & cool)
3/4 C buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 C nuts (optional)
Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and chocolate, Stir in buttermilk and vanilla. Add dry ingredients. Mix in nuts. Chill at least 1 hour. Heat oven to 400º Drop rounded tsp. dough on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. Frost with chocolate icing when cool.
