1 pkg. Baker's German sweet chocolate squares
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks (unbeaten)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
4 egg whites (stiffly beaten)

Icing
1 c. evaporated milk
1 c. sugar
3 egg yolks
1 stick oleo
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can Baker's coconut
1 c. pecans

Cake:
Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks 1 at a time, beating after each one. Add chocolate and vanilla. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add flour alternately with buttermilk to egg mixture, beating after each addition. Fold in egg whites. Pour into 3 8 or 9-inch lightly greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes.

Icing:
Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks, oleo and vanilla in a sauce pan. Cook over medium heat about 12 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened. Add coconut and pecans.
