Olive oil
garlic
onion
diced stewed tomatos (if already not prepared from scratch)
crushed tomatos in puree
salt and pepper
bay leaf
fresh basil
oregano
sugar

Directions:
Directions:
In a big pot, saute the onion and garlic in oil until tender. Add tomatos and juices. Add seasonings to taste and bay leaf and sugar. Simmer on low for 30 min. Stir in chopped basil leaves. Serve with fresh olive oil and minced basil leaves on top.

My family says Sugo which we make on the sweeter side. Marinara is the Neopolitan name but still tomato sauce and without the sugar. Do not say Gravy! Gravy is brown and for roast beef and mashed potatos. Gravy is American, Sugo is ITALIANO!
