2 lbs. beef chuck, cut in 1 1/2 in. cubes.
1 large onion
1 bud of garlic (on toothpick to be retrieved)
4 c. boiling water
1 T. salt
1 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. Worcestershire
1 bay leaf
A dash of allspice or cloves
6 carrots, quartered
1 lb. small white onions
A few diced potatoes

Directions:
Directions:
Heat 2 T. oil in dutch oven. Brown beef cubes on all sides (20
minutes). Add ingredients (large onion through allspice/cloves).
Simmer gently, stirring occasionally. When meat is almost done
add carrots, small onions and potatoes. Simmer 30 minutes
longer or until everything is tender. Discard bay leaf and garlic.
May be thickened with 1/4 c. flour mixed with 1/2 c. cold water if
desired.
