3 cups applesauce
3 tsps baking soda
1 cup butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground nutmeg


2 cups raisins
1 cup candied cherries
1½ cups chopped walnuts
5 cups flour
3 cups brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Heat applesauce in saucepan and add soda & spices, add butter and heat until melted.

In large bowl, mix fruit & nuts with flour and sugar. Add hot mixture & mix thoroughly.

Pour into angel food pan and bake 325º for 1-1½ hours or until toothpick comes out clean. The mixture can also be put in small loaf pans for gift giving or just to freeze and pull out for later enjoyment.

This is one of the many memories I so enjoyed with my Mom during the Christmas season, the holiday baking...yum yum. Update2023: Mom used to babysit for triplets when she was 17 years old, she got this recipe from their mother.
