1 c. flour
3/4 c. sugar
2 T. cocoa
2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1/2 c. milk
2 T. melted shortening
1 t. vanilla
TOPPING:
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
1 3/4 c. hot water

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.
In a large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt, milk, shortening and vanilla; blend until smooth. Pour cake mixture into ungreased 9" square pan.
TOPPING: In small mixing bowl mix together brown sugar, cocoa, and hot water, making sure that the brown sugar is dissolved. Pour over batter. Bake at 350º for 40 - 45 minutes or until cake is set. Best served warm. Makes 5 to 8 servings.
