1 ½ pounds of stew meat.
1 tablespoons shortening
1 med. Onion, chopped
½ tsp salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 can of tomato soup
1 can beef consumme
¼ tsp. Powdered basil
¼ tsp. Powdered thyme
½ cup catsup
3 med. Carrots
2 stalks celery
4 med. potatoes

Directions:
Directions:
Brown beef lightly in shortening in dutch oven. Add onion, saute until transparent. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Stir soup, consumme & ¼ cup of water. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Add herbs and catsup. Cut carrots into pieces. Cut celery into 1 inch diagonal pieces. Pare and quarter potatoes. Arrange vegatables over beef. Cover all ingredients simmer for 1 hour and 30 minutes or until beef and vegatables are tender, adding additional water if necessary.
