1 lb. hamburger, cooked and drained
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup cubed potatoes
1 cup sliced carrots
1 cup sliced celery
1 can tomatoes with juice (diced tomatoes work well)
1/4 cup barley
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. basil
3-4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
6 cups water
1 beef bouillon cube (optional) can be added for a stronger flavor

Add all ingredients, stir well, bring to a boil, then turn down heat to a slow boil/simmer and cook until everything is tender, about 1 hour. The last 20 minutes of cooking time, add a handful of elbow macaroni. (May add additional water for desired consistency.)
