1 small package of cut up dates
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 small package semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1/4 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Place dates in bowl with baking soda and cover with boiling water. Let stand 1 hour. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs; mix well. Add flour and baking soda to the creamed mixture alternately with the date mixture.
Put in a greased 9 x 13 pan; sprinkle with chocolate morsels and 1/4 cup sugar. Bake in a preheated oven at 375º for 15 minutes, THEN at 350º for 15 minutes.

This is a nice cake that is moist yet not overly sweet. It is delicious served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
