1 cup dried chopped figs, 2 cups boiling water,
2- 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. Baking powder
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. In a bowl add the boiling water to the chopped figs to cover. In another bowl sift the flour salt and baking powder. In another bowl cream the shortening and sugar and beat in eggs. Add sifted ingredients to the creamed mixture alternating with the milk. Beat well. Stir in vanilla and the figs. (drain excess water from the figs)Pour batter into a greased 9x5 loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour or until pick inserted in center comes out clean.
