"The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn't waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it."--Mario Batali

2 big cups of sugar
1 1/2 c. Crisco
4 eggs
1 big cup of milk
1/2 tsp baking soda
5 cups flour (until stiff)
2 tsp baking powder
1 Tbs vanilla
1/2 tsp butter flavor
(1 cup crushed Macadamia nuts- optional)

Dissolve baking soda in milk and add vanilla and butter flavor. Mix together sugar and Crisco. Mix in eggs then milk. Mix baking powder in flour and add to mixture. Use enough flour to make a stiff dough. Work cinnamon into dough. Preheat oven to 400F. Drop dough by tablespoon onto greased cookie sheet and sprinkle top with sugar. Bake for 10 minutes or until done. I add crushed macadamia nuts for a different flavor.
