1 1/2 lbs. cottage ham,cut up
2 quarts water
1- cup barley, washed
4 carrots, chopped
1-15oz can kidney beans
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Put all ingredients except kidney beans in a dutch oven. Cook 1 1/2 to 2 hours on low heat or until barley is done and most of the water has been absorbed. Remove meat from pot and chop into pieces and return to the pot. Add the kidney beans, undrained. Continue cooking until heated through.

Crockpot directions: Reduce water to 4 cups and cook on low heat setting 3-4 hours.
