Pie filling:

2 tbsp butter
1 lb hamburger
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
1/4 cup flour
1 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce


For Pastry:

1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
3-6 tbsp cold water
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese (sharp is best!)

Preheat oven to 400º. Melt the butter in a skillet, add the meat, onion and green pepper, cook until meat is lightly browned. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Add tomato sauce and cook, stirring until the mixture thickens. Stir in celery and Worcestershire sauce. Reheat and pour into a 8" square baking dish.

Prepare the cheese pastry by cutting the shortening into the flour and salt. Stir in the cheese and add just enough of the water to make a stiff dough. Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4" thickness. Cut an 8"square and place on top of the meat mixture. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until pastry is golden.
