1/2 C. Butter 2 7/8 C. Sifted Flour
1 1/2 C. Sugar 2 2/3 tsp. Baking powder
2 Eggs 1 tsp. Vanilla
1 C. Milk 1 tsp. Salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and 1/2 of sugar. Add vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the flour mix and milk alternately to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix thoroughly. Beat eggs, adding remaining sugar gradually. Beat for five minutes. Combine the egg-sugar mixture with the batter. Put this into a greased loaf pan and bake for about 45 minutes at 350º. If baked in layer pans, will need to bake only around 30 minutes.

Joan and I made this many, many times when we were in 4H. It is very good to eat as a snack cake or serve with berries as one would a shortcake. This is a recipe from the 1950's or earlier.
