1 c shortening
1 1/4 c brown sugar
3 beaten eggs
1/2 c molasses
1 T ginger
1 1/2 c boiling water
5 c flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. soda
salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening. Add sugar and beaten eggs. Mix ginger with molasses and add to sugar mixture. Add the boiling water. Mix dry ingredients and add to the mixture. Place in refrigerator for two hours, then drop on a cookie sheet and bake in hot oven.

This is a large recipe and will make a lot of cookies, but Grandma had many cookie lovin' children. As with many of these old time recipes, probably baked in a coal or wood burning stove oven, the temperature and time are determined by the intensity of the stove heat and the good judgement of the baker.
