6 quarts of pie cherries pitted
8 cups of sugar
6 cups of water
1 cup of corn starch
Red food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Mix and cook together water, cornstarch and sugar until thick and smooth. Fill jars with cherries and add a few drops of red food coloring to each jar. pour syrup in each jar enough to cover cherries. Wipe the jar edges clean and put on lid and ring and adjust lid. Process in a hot water bath for 20 minutes. Mom always added a little almond flavoring and dotted the fruit with butter when she got ready to use these in a pie.

We used to sit on the roof of the old chicken house and pick the neighbors cherries until she would catch us and start yelling to get out of her cherry tree.
