2 1/2 cup sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups brown sugar (firmly packed)
2 cups shortening
2 tsps soda
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup sour milk
2 eggs well beaten
chopped nuts (opt)
cinnamon (opt.)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine flour, salt, brown sugar, and shortening; mix until crumbly. Reserve 1/2 cup to sprinkle over batter. Add baking powder, soda, and spices to remaining crumbs; mix thoroughly; add milk and eggs, mix well. Pour into 2 waxed paper lined 8x8x2 inch pans. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs, then chopped nuts and cinnamon. Bake at 375º for 25 to 30 minutes. Serves 10 Prep 20 minutes
