1 stewing chicken

1 ½ c plain flour
¾ tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking powder
3 T shortening
approx. 4 to 5 c broth
½ tsp pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Boil chicken in with onion, celery, garlic, salt and pepper until tender. Remove chicken, cool and debone. Strain broth, return broth to large pot and add 2 tsp chopped parsley and deboned chicken.

Mix dry ingredients, add shortening, mix until pea size crumbs, add 1/3 to ½ c broth and make stiff dough. Roll out handfuls of dough on well-floured surface. Cut into approx. ½ to 1” strips. Lay out on opened paper bags or wax paper for a minimum of 30 mins to dry. Bring broth back to full boil with the stripped chicken. Slowly drop dumplings, barely stirring until all dumplings are in. Reduce fire to low, cover and simmer for 15 mins.
