2/3 C white sugar
1/4 cup melted shortening
1 C milk
1 egg
1 C cornmeal
1 C flour
1/2 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350. Mix sugar and egg. Add shortneing, milk, cornmeal, flour, salt and baking powder. Stir briefly. Bake in a greased 9x9 pan for 35 to 40 minutes, until lightly browned.

This recipe was obtained by me from Patsy, our cousin, who declares it to be Grandma's authentic recipe, and I can recall from experience that all our Aunts unsed this from time to time. Even though it is good with milk, it is scrumptious slathered with butter and served slightly warm.
