1/4 C. packed light brown sugar
1/4 C. margarine, softened
1/4 C. Crisco shortening
1/2 t. vanilla
1 egg yolk (white separated)
1 C. flour
1/4 t. salt
1 C. finely chopped nuts
1/4 c. one or more flavored jelly

Directions:
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350. Have cookie sheet ready
2. In a large bowl beat sugar, margarine, shortening, vanilla and egg yolk with a wooden spoon or electric mixer until blended and smooth.
3. Add flour and salt. Stir until dough holds together.
4. Refrigerate dough, if needed, until firm enough to handle.
5. Shape into 1-inch balls.
6. In a small bowl, beat egg whites slightly with a fork.
7. Dip balls into egg white then roll in nuts.
8. Place about inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
9. Press thumb deeply in center of each.
10. Bake about 10 minutes or until light brown.
11. Remove to wire rack to cool.
12. Spoon jelly into thumbprint.
