1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3 eggs beaten well
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 3/4 cup oatmeal blended
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp soft butter
1/4 cup powdered sugar

Mix sugars, shortening, margarine, eggs, and vanilla in large mixer bowl. Beat until creamy and fluffy. Mix flour, oatmeal, soda, and spices together and add to butter mixture; mix well, drop by spoonfuls on greased baking sheets. In preheated oven set at 350; bake for 8 minutes or until light brown. Cool and frost.
FROSTING: Mix soft butter and powdered sugar, adding enough water or milk to make a thin frosting. Brush tops of cooled cookies lightly; let set and store. Yield: 48 Prep: 15 min.
