1/2 C shortening
1/2 C sugar
1 egg
1 C dark syrup
1 T lemon juice
3 1/2 C flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 C boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg then add syrup and
lemon juice blending well. Sift and mix dry ingredients and add to
sugar mixture. Add boiling water and mix well. Chill dough
throughly. Drop by teaspoonful on greased cookie sheet.
Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350º 8-10 mins. Bake tablespoon
drops for 10-15 mins.
