6 to 8 medium cucumbers
2 large white onions
1/2 large sweet pepper
1/2 T mustard seed
1 tsp tumeric
2 T salt
1 1/4 cups cider vinegar
1 1/4 cups sugar or 1 3/4 cups syrup
1/8 tsp cloves

Wash cucumbers and slice them as thin as possible. Chop
onions and peppers. Combine with cucumbers and salt. Let
stand 3 hours, drain and rinse. Combine vinegar, sugar & spices
in large kettle. Bring to a boil. Add cucumbers and heat
thoroughly, but do not boil. Pack in hot sterilized jars and
process 10 minutes in water bath.

Over the years Mama made so many pickles, but these
were her best. Somehow they were always so crisp and tasty.
She enjoyed sharing with family members.....many of whom
waited for the summer cucumber season knowing they would
receive some of her pickles!
