Ingredients:
Ingredients:
4 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. sugar
2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1 1/2 c. buttermilk (not the fat free variety)
2 eggs
1 stick butter, softened
1/2 lb. golden raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Toss mixture with your hands. Add softened butter in pieces to the flour mixture (also using your hands) until thoroughly blended. Add raisins and toss. Beat eggs in a separate bowl. Add the buttermilk and blend well. Pour the egg mixture, a little at a time, into dry ingredients. Blend well with a wooden spoon. The dough should be heavy and just a bit wet. Dust hands with flour and mold dough into a round. Place the dough into a greased 9 inch round pan. Dust the top generously with flour. Using the wrong end of a fork, cut a deep cross into the dough to prevent cracking. Bake at 350º for 50 minutes to an hour. Cook prior to servincg.

Personal Notes:
Think soda bread always requires an 8 oz. glass of water to get it down? Not this one! A stick of butter ensures a moist, flavorful bread.
