1 cup dates cut up
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup water

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg yolk
1 egg white
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking power
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Filling:Cook dates 1/3 cup sugar and water slowly over low heat until thickened. Set aside
Dough: cream 1 cup sugar shortening egg yolk together
Sift flour baking powder baking soda and salt
Alternate milk with flour mixture until all ingredients are well blended. Beat egg white and fold in
Add vanilla
Drop dough on greased cookie sheet; add 1 tsp filling in center and cover with dough.
Sprinkle with sugar
Bake 375º about 15 minutes
