1 1/2 c. corn meal
1/2 c. flour
1 egg
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Onions to taste
Buttermilk to make dough (start with 3/4 cup. Cook a couple of hushpuppies and check denseness. They should be light and not heavy. Add more milk if needed).

Mix all dry ingredients. Add onion and buttermilk.
drop by tablespoonful into hot grease, cook until brown.

Daddy and Tom Parrish went fishing almost every Thursday afternoon. That night they would cook the fish they had caught along with the hush puppies. Mama would always make the slaw since Bertie didn't know how to cook. Daddy & Tom always had fish in the freezer in case they didn't have any luck on fishing day.
