Ingredients: 4 c. of flour 1 1/4 c. lukewarm water 3 1/2 tbsp. dried yeast (or 7 TBS fresh yeast) 1 c. sunflower oil Add desired amount for the following: Salt Flour for sprinkling Oil for deep frying Caster or icing sugar for dredging

Directions:1. Mix half the flour with 1 1/4 c. lukewarm water and the yeast. Leave to rise in a warm place for 20 minutes. 2. When it begins to rise, mix the remaining flour and water and sun flower oil. 3. Sprinkle a little salt on the dough and knead until it becomes moist. 4. Sprinkle lightly with flour and leave to rise in a dry and warm area for 30 minutes. 5. When you press the dough with your finger and it springs back immediately, it is ready to fry. 6. Pull off pieces of dough and shape doughnuts. Set aside. 7. Heat oil in deep frying pan until very hot and drop the doughnuts into it. 8. Fry unitl nicely browed on all sides. When cooked they should feel light when pricked with a toothpick. 9. Drain on kitchen paper. Pile up the doughnuts in a bowl and dredge with a little sugar. Serve warm. |
