1 cup shortening
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
12 oz semisweet chocolate pieces
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
In large mixing bowl, cream together: shortening, sugars, eggs and vanilla till light and fluffy.
In another bowl thoroughly stir together: flour, baking soda and salt.
Add flour mixture a little at a time to creamed mixture till both are mixed together well. Stir in semisweet chocolate pieces, walnuts and 1 teaspoon hot water.
Drop batter from teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 350ºF for 10-12 minutes. Remove from pan and cool on rack.
