2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 tsp salt
2 tsp soda
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter or oleo
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk (may use 1 T vinegar added to 1 cup of milk)
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup

Sift flour, salt, soda, and cocoa together and set aside. Cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and continue beating until well blended. Alternate the sifted ingredients with the buttermilk. Turn the beater down to a slow setting while adding the dry and buttermilk ingredients. Add the vanilla and be sure the batter is well blended. Slowly add the BOILING water into cake mixture. Pour into well greased cake pan and bake at 350º for 50 minutes. (If oven bakes hot bake at 325º.) This recipe makes a big 9x13 pan or 3 layers.

This is a very good chocolate cake--very moist. Glenn always liked if it fell in the middle because it was heavier but Jim liked it when it didn't. Hard to please everyone.
