1/3 cup shortening
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup sifted flour
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Measure into saucepan the first four ingredients. Place over low heat and stir occassionally until shortening and chocolate melt. Remove from heat. Add eggs and beat until well blended. Beat flour mixture (flour, salt and soda) into chocolate until smooth. Sitr in nuts and vanilla. Pour batter into greased 8 inch square pan.
Bake at 325 F for 25 minutes.
