Ingredients: FILLING: 2 pound ground beef 2 Tbsp. cooking oil 3/4 c. minced onions ½ c. finely diced celery ½ tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce/ divided. DOUGH: 3 c. flour 4 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. marjoram 1/8 tsp. sage 6 Tbsp. shortening ½ c. tomato sauce (reserved from filling) ½ c. water. SAUCE:
1 can (10 oz) condensed Golden Mushroom soup 1/3 c. milk ½ c. shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Directions:Cook ground beef, celery and onion in skillet in hot oil until meat is brown and celery and onion are lightly cooked. Add salt, pepper and 1 ½ cups tomato sauce. Simmer until thick. Cool. Prepare dough.
DOUGH: Sift together dry ingredients, cut shortening into mixture until resembles coarse cornmeal. Combine tomato sauce and water add to mix to moisten. Turn to lightly floured surface knead. Roll into a 13 X 9 rectangle. Spread meat mixture on dough and roll as a jelly roll. Bake @350º for 30-35 minute OR until lightly browned. Prepare sauce and serve over roll.
SAUCE: Combine soup, milk and cheese. Heat slowly, stirring occasionally until cheese melts. Serve over baked roll. |

Notes: This was the winning recipe for the Beef Cook-Off in Spanish Fork a number of years ago. I was the chariman of the cook-off and got the recipe from the contestant. This went on to honorable mention on the National level.
