¾ c. - shortening
1 c. - sugar
¼ c. - molasses
1 - egg
2 tsp. - baking soda
2 c. - flour
½ tsp. - cloves, ground
½ tsp. - ginger
1 tsp. - cinnamon
½ tsp. - salt

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening in 4 qt. saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and let cool. Add sugar, molasses, and egg, beat well. Sift together dry ingredients and gradually add to molasses mixture, mix well. Refrigerate. Form into 1 inch balls, roll in sugar and put on greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes.
