1/2c.shortening,1 1/2 c. granulated sugar, 1egg,1/4c.buttermilk, 1tsp. vanilla flavoring,2ripe bananas mashed, 2c. all-purpose flour, 2tsp. baking soda, and walnuts(optional)

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix all above ingredients except for the walnuts. Fold walnuts into batter. Spray and flour two 9'' round pans. Divide the batter between the two pans. Cook for 15-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.

This recipe does not take very long in the oven so be sure to keep an eye on it. I never go by how long recipes say that it takes. I always insert a toothpick into the center of the cake and when it comes out clean then I know that it is time to take it out of the oven.
