2 C Quaker Oats
1 3/4 C flour
1/2 C butter of margarine room temp
1/2 C crisco
1 C firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 C chopped nuts
1 t cinnamon
3/4 t salt
1/2 t baking soda
3/4 C fruit preserves or jam of your choice

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients except preserves. Beat at low speed in electric mixer until crumbly. Reserve 2 C for the top. Press remaining mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 baking pan. Spread with preserves, sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Press lightly. Bake at 400 degrees 25-30 min until golden brown. Cut into squares.

This was a favorite snack when the Chester boys and Bryan and Sean played at our house on summer afternoons. It was hard to let them get cool enough before they were devoured.
