2 lb. lean ground beef chuck,
1/3 c. finely chopped onion,
1 T. chili powder,
1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin,
3/4 tsp chopped fresh oregano,
3/4 tsp. garlic pepper seasoning,
3/4 tsp salt (optional)
6 slices ( about 4 oz.) peppered jack cheese (optional),
6 hamburger buns

Preheat grill to med. direct heat. Meanwhile, crumble meat into medium bowl. Sprinkle with onion, chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic pepper, and salt, if desired; toss lightly with 2 forks to mix well. Shape into 6 patties, each 3/4-inch thick. Place burgers on grill. Grill, covered, 5 to 7 min. per side or until done (160 degrees) Top each burger with a slice of cheese, and place buns cut side down on grill during last 1 - 2 min. of cooking, if desired. Serve hot burgers in buns.
