! cup self-rising white corn meal
½ cup self-rising flour
1 egg beaten
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Add shortening to cast iron skillet.
Melt shortening in oven.
Remove.
Set aside.

Beat egg in a bowl.
Add buttermilk.
Mix well.
Add cornmeal and flour to mixture.
Mix well.
Pour melted shortening into mixture.

Pour mixture into hot skillet.
Place skillet in oven.
Bake for 30 minutes at 425 degrees, or until golden brown.

Growing up, Cornbread and a glass of buttermilk was supper.
