15 oz Oreos, crushed

2 boxes French vanilla pudding mix

3 cups milk

8 oz cream cheese, softened

˝ cup butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

16 oz Cool Whip, thawed

Gummy worms

Directions:
Prepare the pudding:
In a large bowl, whisk together the French vanilla pudding mixes and 3 cups of milk. Let the pudding thicken.

Make the cream cheese mixture:
In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
Mix in the powdered sugar.
Fold in the Cool Whip until well combined.

Combine mixtures:
Fold the prepared pudding into the cream cheese mixture until fully blended.

Assemble the dessert:
Start by placing a layer of crushed Oreos at the bottom of a clean pail or serving container.

Add a layer of the pudding mixture.

Continue alternating layers of Oreos and pudding mixture until you reach the top.

Make sure the final top layer is crushed Oreos to resemble “dirt.”

Add decorations:
Stick gummy worms into the top “dirt” layer.
You may also add worms between layers if desired.

Chill:
Refrigerate for 3–4 hours or overnight for best results.

Serve:
Serve with a clean shovel for fun!

My mother would make dirt cake when I was younger for my brothers and me, and it always felt like a special occasion, even when it really wasn’t. There was something special about it, something so different from any other dessert. She served it in a bucket, and we’d scoop it out with a little shovel, each of us hoping to dig up the most gummy worms.
