Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3–4 slices of Taylor ham (yes, Taylor ham, don’t start)

1 egg

1–2 slices American cheese (the melty orange magic)

1 kaiser roll (preferably from a real NJ bakery, not the sad grocery kind)

Butter or oil, for the pan

Salt & pepper

Optional: ketchup (but only if you want to start another family debate)

Directions:

Prep Like a Pro: Slice your kaiser roll and toast it lightly. This is a sacred step—crispy edges make life better.

The Classic Cuts: Take your Taylor ham slices and make four little slits around the edges so they don’t puff up like they’re trying to escape the pan.

Sizzle Time: Heat a skillet over medium heat, add a bit of butter, and toss in the Taylor ham. Cook until lightly browned and smelling like every NJ diner at 8 a.m.

Egg-cellent Move: Crack your egg into the same pan. Fry it however you like, but if you go runny yolk, prepare for drips of joy.

Cheese, Please: Layer the cheese over the egg or the ham—dealer’s choice. Let it melt into dairy perfection.

Assembly: Stack your ham, egg, and cheese onto the toasted roll. Add ketchup if that’s your thing. (No judgment. Okay, maybe a little.)

Final Step: Take a bite and feel your Jersey pride grow three sizes.

Depends how long you argue about calling it pork roll

Chef’s Notes (From One NJ Person to Another):

This sandwich cures bad moods, hangovers, homesickness, and at least 60% of life problems.

It tastes best eaten in the car outside a bagel shop.

If anyone calls it pork roll, simply smile and bless their heart—they can still eat it, they’re just wrong.
