"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

In a separate bowl, combine yeast and 1 tbsp. sugar with 1/2 c. lukewarm water and allow to proof. In mixing bowl add 1/2 c. sugar, 1 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 egg, begin mixing. In measuring cup pour 1/2 c. oil, pour in 1 c. Herman start; add to sugar and egg mixture along with proofed yeast. After mixed, add 2 c. flour, add 1 c. warm water, continue mixing. Take out and place in a large greased bowl, cover with a light cloth and allow to rise till double in a nice warm area. Approximately an hour and a half.

Divide and place into greased pans, 2 large or 4 smaller loaves. Cover and allow to rise till double, approximately 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350º. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden.

Remove from the oven and put immediately into plastic bags and seal.

Feed starter after each use.

To make original starter, combine starter ingredients and let proof for three days on the counter before using. Starter will grow so put it into a larger pan when first making it.
