Notes: Recipe taken from the side of an old Cheerios® box--Alyssa sent the actual picture of the side of the box to me, which was way cool. (Or 'wick-ED' as they used to say in LP and in the Land of Oz)
Would strongly recommend covering the cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet--this stuff is pretty similar to Pesach matzah granola; it will stick to foil... it's hard to get scrape off a cookie sheet
Any kind of Cheerios© will work, of course: Original, Honey Nut, Frosted, Multigrain, Pumpkin Spice Limited, Oat Crunch, Apple Cinnamon, Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Oat Crunch Almond, Fruity Cheerios (kind of like dull fruit loops), Frosted Lemon Cheerios (likely developed for heart health and improve the sales of diabetes drugs). Very Berry and Strawberry Banana would technically work, but might turn it into something of a monstrosity. As for Veggie Blends Blueberry Banana and Veggie Blends Apple Strawberry, proceed at your own risk... not to say anything about the elusive Protein Blends....
Personally, I prefer rice crispy treats and muddy buddies when it comes to cereal based cookies, which is not exactly a resounding endorsement of the venerable NuttyOs. Still, they ain't bad and, heck, any cookie will serve in a pinch. Umm... Maybe not if you made them with the Limited Edition Protein Veggie Blends Goat Cheese, Broccoli, and Passion Fruit Os. (Okay this last one doesn't exist, but it might as well.). So this is not a bad way to go, when you buy that huge two-pack of Cheerios® at Costco and the kids finally refuse to eat any more of them for breakfast.
