Ingredients: 3 sticks of Butter 1 1/2 Cups of Sugar 1/2 Cup of Molasses 1 tsp. Vanilla 3 Tbsp. Brandy or Milk 5 1/2 Cups of Flour 1 tsp. Baking Powder 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda 2 tsp. Cinnamon 1/2 tsp. Ground Cloves 1/2 tsp. Black Pepper 1 tsp. Anise Seed (finely chopped)

Directions: |
Directions:Cream butter and sugar. Add molasses, brandy (or milk), and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together the dry ingredients (except the anise seed). Add the dry ingredients plus the anise seed to the butter/sugar mixture. Mix well. Divide the dough into 4-5 balls and chill for several hours. Roll out a section of dough on a floured surface until about 1/4” thickness. Cut out shapes with a round cooking cutter or your favorite Christmas cookie cutters. Place on parchment lined baking sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool on wire racks.While cookies are still warm, spread a powdered sugar glaze on top of each one. I use about 2 cups of powdered sugar that is thinned out with a little milk. I also add a little food coloring to my glaze. |
