1 16 ounce package, dried black eyed peas
4 cups water
1 32 ounce chicken broth
1 medium onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 TSP salt
1 TSP black pepper
1 TSP white sugar
2 cups cooked and diced ham, or smoked sausage
3 pieces thick cut bacon, cooked and chopped
1 small jalapeno, seeds removed, and diced (optional)

1. Sort and wash the peas. Add to large stock pot or crockpot
2. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat. Simmer 1-2 hours, until peas are tender. Crockpot, low 7-8 hours/high 4-5 hours.
