Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
8 oz cream cheese, softened (brick-style, not spreadable)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
4 cups powdered sugar
whole milk or half & half for thinning icing if needed

Directions:
Directions:
1. Make sure butter and cream cheese are very soft. This will make the icing blend much more smoothly.
2. Combine butter and cream cheese in a bowl. Using a mixer, beat until creamy, well blended, and lump free.
3. Add vanilla and salt. Combine well.
4. With mixer on LOW, gradually add powdered sugar until completely combined.
5. If the mixture seems too stiff, add a small amount of milk or half & half to thin to spreading consistency.

This freezes extremely well. I make several batches at once and store it in the freezer in 2 cup containers. I only have to thaw it and I have icing ready for cinnamon rolls or cakes quickly.

If I am making a large cake (3 or more layers), I make 2 recipes to make sure I have enough icing. I just freeze any leftovers.
